Bridge the Economic Gap Day 2008

Elim Transitional Housing, Inc. of Minneapolis, MN takes their banner with them to outdoor stages.

Elim Transitional Housing, Inc. of Minneapolis, MN had their banner everywhere -- parades, outdoor stages, and what even looks like the train station!

BridgeTheGap 2008 Austin TX
The Austin, TX ULW Warriors brought not only their ULW banners, but
a banner with a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:

"There is nothing except shortsightedness to prevent us from guaranteeing
a. . .livable income for every American. . . ."

Phoenix, AZ 2008 ULW warriors!
After the Arizona Homeless Shelter in Phoenix, Arizona finished their bridge gathering,
they hung their banner on their fence.

Here are some 2007 Bridge the Economic Gap photos.

AFL-CIO 586 kept their banner up on their marquee
for over a week!

AFGE Local 916 worked their bridge in shifts.

More shots from the folks at AFGE Local 916!

The Hawaiian AFL-CIO office has their banner front and center!

Despite intermittent rain, the Austin ULW groups
get their banners out over Interstate 35!
Daniel Burke from UFCW Local 1442 in Elsegundo, CA
stands by an onramp in west Los Angeles.

The National Coalition for the Homeless in Washington, DC
had a bunch of people bring their old yard signs!

UFCW 1441 gives a different bridge in Austin, TX
the ULW Campaign treatment.

Common Ground Legal Advocacy in New Orleans, LA meet at Claiborne and Esplanade
to draw attention to the plight of poorly paid workers struggling to rebuild the Crescent City.

Wyoming drivers were not going
to miss this banner!

WCH members brought along their yard signs from other ULW events.
Wyoming Coalition for the Homeless of Cheyenne, WY gets its members on the street!

South Florida Jobs with Justice lets their banner say it all
as they gather on the 17th Ave. Bridge.

Jacksonians for a Living Wage and Mississippi ACORN
gather at I-55 & Riverside in Jackson, MS to tell folks about the Universal Living Wage.

More Jacksonians at I-55 & Riverside
pass out ULW materials and carefully weigh down their banner
with (what else?) the nuts and bolts of hard work!

The Sheet Metal Workers #41 in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, draw attention to the Universal Living Wage proposal by draping local bridges with their banner, as well as bringing it to a Labor Day picnic. Thanks to Alfredo M. Mari and Ruben Rodriguez Bonet for the photos!

“Llenar el VACIO ECONOMICO” Con el "www.Universal Living Wage"

April 15th—Tax Day—is our Campaign Anniversary. In just three years, our goal to fix the Federal Minimum Wage has garnered the support of over 1250 separate organizations at the local, state, and national levels.
Every Tax Day we ask the recipients of our campaign kits to go to their main post office on tax night, take a few people, a couple of red and white yard signs and the banner and help make a statement about taxes and wages:
"If all businesses paid a Universal Living Wage, we could reduce the tax burden on every single American!"
Put out a simple press release that you'll be there and then go! Get 15 minutes of fame and you're done.
At the National Coalition for the Homeless, we are fighting for truly Affordable Housing, Health Care for everyone and Livable Wages for all.

TAX DAY 2005

An Open Letter to the Universal Living Wage Campaign...

Richard,

I hope this email finds you doing well. Our campaign on Tax Day went great. I utilized 37 of my stewards to handbill as well as fly the UniversalLivingWage signs that you sent. I still have a few taped to the windows of our Local Lodge.

On June 15, 2005 the Detroit Air Transport will be performing informational picketing at The Detroit Metro Airport from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and we will use whatever signs I have left along with our picket signs. This is a huge union town as you know, and we get a lot of attention about the cause. I passed along signs to our local UAW members, and SEIU members.

I would love to participate in the Bridge Banners. Our Local Lodge is committed to your organization and the cause. I will be proposing a motion for a donation to your organization to our membership, which I know will pass...have to do the formality thing.

Keep up the great work!

Stephen M. Gordon
